For the frosting:

  • 10 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • Zest of 1 Lemon
You will need:
  • Heart shaped sprinkles
  • 1 round baking tin
  • 1 square baking tin
  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Line the two baking tins with baking paper and grease with butter.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, sugars, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, oil, eggs and vanilla extract and mix into flour mixture until fully incorporated. Mix in the boiling water.
  4. Divide the batter among the prepared tins and bake for 30-40 minutes until a cake pick comes out clean.
  5. To make the frosting, whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  6. Place the square cake on large board like a diamond. Cut the round cake in half. Use some frosting to stick the round halves to the 2 sides of square to make a heart shape.
