  • 1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water
For the frosting:
  • 4 packs Violife Creamy Original
  • 10 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • Zest of 1 Lemon
You will need:
  • Heart shaped sprinkles
  • 1 round baking tin
  • 1 square baking tin
  1. Line the two baking tins with baking paper and grease with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, sugars, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, oil, eggs and vanilla extract and mix into flour mixture until fully incorporated. Mix in the boiling water.
  3. Divide the batter among the prepared tins and bake for 30-40 minutes until a cake pick comes out clean.
  4. To make the frosting, whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  5. Place the square cake on large board like a diamond. Cut the round cake in half. Use some frosting to stick the round halves to the 2 sides of square to make a heart shape.
  6. Frost the surface of the heart generously. Sprinkle with heart shaped sprinkles and serve!
  7. Heat oven to 180°C.
